Mission Statement:
Learning to Lead exists to educate, create, enhance, and develop leadership skills in others so that through this education, these emerging leaders can make a positive impact on their schools and/or communities.
The Directors and Facilitators of Learning to Lead have designed and lead workshops, retreats and conferences for a wide variety of audiences…from Fortune 300 companies to universities to schools. We look forward to assisting with your organization.

The Leadership Experience Directors and Facilitators

Beth Mooney, Co-Director
Beth became involved in leadership activities in high school and since has always understood the importance of developing these skills at a young age. Beth graduated cum laude from Bucknell University and held several campus leadership positions both at Bucknell and while completing her graduate degree at Loyola College.
After completing her Masters Degree, Beth obtained a job as the Assistant Director of Leadership Development and Greek Affairs at Villanova University. Beth enjoyed all of her responsibilities in this position, including team training on the university's ropes course, developing leadership seminars for students and advising fraternities and sororities.
Beth joined a Fortune 500 company to round out her experiences. She served in many different capacities, including manager of development programs for associates and new managers. She spent a majority of her time working in executive administration having the opportunity to experience and learn first hand from the executives of a company's decision processes and leadership skills.
Beth always promised herself to return to endeavors that developed leadership skills in others, starting with adolescents. So in 2005 she started Learning to Lead to ensure that others became inspired, empowered and motivated leaders.

David Archer Sr. Co-Director
David has been educating individuals on how to be leaders for over three decades in a vast array of forums. Dave taught high school social studies and government in Upstate New York for thirty five years. He became a known expert on students and leadership and served as a consultant for Newsweek magazine focusing on preparing citizens to be involved in government.
Dave has held several civic and community leadership positions. He served as Mayor of Endicott, New York for 8 years. As Mayor, he led serveral key initiatives for the town, county and state, while also receiving several awards and recognition. Dave also served as a coach for many years. He was the Coach of the Men's Varsity Basketball Team at Binghamton University for 8 years.
Dave undertook another major leadership responsibility over twenty years ago by creating the New York State Basketball Coaches Association, where he continues to serve as the Executive Director.
Finally, Dave most recently accepted a position at Binghamton University, this time off the court as a professor of Education. In addition, he has created and presented several leadership seminars for various business and civic leaders. Dave graduated from Siena College and received his Masters Degree in education from SUNY Albany.

Tom Mogan, Lead Facilitator
Tom has been developing student leaders at Villanova University for over ten years, serving in his current position as the Director of Student Development since 1998. In this role, Tom has worked with numerous college student leaders as advisor to several student organizations. In addition, Tom was instrumental in the development of the Villanova Challenge Course and has served as a lead facilitator since its inception. Tom is also a certified facilitator for Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, which he uses in a leadership development program for first-year students.
Consistent with Villanova's mission, Tom believes deeply that a commitment to service is vital to developing effective leadership. Therefore, in addition to his formal duties, Tom has volunteered for and served as advisor to thirteen different service break trips - including trips to Vietnam, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Peru. Tom's commitment to educating Villanova students extends to the classroom as well. Currently pursuing a PhD in History at Temple University, Tom received his Masters Degree in History from Villanova and teaches in the departments of Peace and Justice and Core Humanities.
Prior to his work at Villanova, Tom received a Masters Degree in Sports Management from Florida State University, where he interned in the athletics department and taught in the College of Education. Tom grew up in Brigantine, NJ and attended Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, NJ, where he taught history for one year after his graduation from the University of Delaware.

Shannon McGorry, Lead Facilitator
Shannon has had the opportunity to exercise and experience leadership in a variety of positions; she has lead and been lead in an educational setting, in the corporate environment and in a non-profit foundation.
Shannon was elected as a class officer each year of high school. This gave her a first taste of leadership; an experience that taught her first hand the opportunities that leadership can offer.
She attended Siena college where she held numerous campus leadership positions. Shannon was involved with the Student Events Board. She held various appointed and elected positions on the campus wide board, which encompassed event planning for the student body of Siena College.
Shannon graduated Magna Cum Laude from Siena and upon graduation entered into the Leadership Development Training Program with Nestle, USA. At Nestle, Shannon was exposed to a variety of leadership opportunities. She was involved with learning the process for corporate sales, marketing and research; an experience that did not come without exposure to dynamic leadership skills.
Currently, Shannon is working in Higher Education with a non-profit foundation. She manages the Faculty & Staff Campaign which raises over one million dollars annually. This endeavor requires leadership skills in volunteer motivation and management, event planning and organization.
She is excited to pass on some of her experiences in the hopes of enlightening you to all of the opportunities of leadership.

Dave Archer, Jr. Lead Facilitator
Dave has been involved in many leadership positions starting with high school to his experiences as a young professional today.
In high school, Dave participated in many leadership activities, including being elected captain of the varsity football team, class president and a three sport athlete.
Dave decided to attend Cornell University where he enjoyed much of what the university had to offer. He majored in Economics and continued to develop and utilize his leadership skills. Dave was a three letter athlete, and was elected football team captain. In addition to his commitment to football, Dave served as treasurer of his Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi and was elected President his junior year.
Upon graduation, Dave wanted to serve in a capacity where he could give back to others using the leadership skills and academic education he obtained from Cornell. Dave was selected by Teach for America, a division of the America Service Corps. He currently serves as a teacher at the Dr. William H. Horton School in Newark, New Jersey. Dave continues his leadership on the field as well serving as an assistant for the Farleigh Dickinson University Football team.
In addition to the above facilitators, participants will interact with keynote speakers and college student leaders.
